What is Health

What is Health

According to the Miriam Websters dictionary health is defined as the:-

  • condition of being well or free from disease
  • the overall condition of someone’s body or mind
  • the condition or state of something
In essence, we all have a choice to have health.

Why is health important?
Health is important! Why am I saying this?
After all, many persons make the choice of being in an unhealthful condition by what they choose to do or eat daily.  So why is it that many people do not see the importance of being healthy?  God says in 3 John 1:2 KJVS;
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. God’s wish for us is to prosper and be in good health. Then who is trying to deceive us into putting unhealthful food into our stomachs or practice unhealthful lifestyles?

We all are acquainted with the story of Adam and Eve. Eve ate the fruit from the tree she was told not to eat from. Her main reason was that she was ensticed by the devil. She disobeyed God. At the end of the day, one of the main reasons that we fall away from God’s wish for us is disobedience. There are other rationales which will be highlighted now with the next questions.

What are the main reasons we get sick?
We get sick because we:-

  • Break the moral law
  • Break health law
  • To the glorify God

An example for these two laws is from Deuteronomy 28:15,22 KJVS

[15] But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
[22] The Lord shall smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.

Note Israel disobeyed both the moral and health laws.

An example of the last bullet point above is with Lazarus, John 11:2-4 KJVS.
[2] (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
[3] Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
[4] When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

What should we do if we get sick?
“In case of sickness, the cause should be ascertained. Unhealthful conditions should be changed and wrong habits corrected. Then nature is to be assisted in her effort to expel impurities and to re – establish right conditions in the system. MH 127.1”

These findings are reasons enough for us to consider our health. Are we in a healthy state now?  Do we consider what God is trying to say to us?  Do we truly believe he wants us to be healthy? These are thoughts worthy of contemplation….
